What home owners should know about there sewer line before having them inspected or scoped. Having a sewer scope is required when a home is up for sale in Portland or, For some home owners selling there home, it can come as a surprise that there sewer is in need of repair, before they can sell there home. Most home owners tell me that there sewer works just fine and ask why dose it need to be fixed.
Old sewer lines will work fine up to the point, just be for it breaks and stops working, giving little warning, With that in mind, this is why sewers are inspected be for homes are sold.
You not thing of sewer lines like moving parts that wares out, But the water is moving through it year after year and it wares out, By leaks in joints of the pipe that have ware out over time and that now leak water that will a track tree roots. Leaks that erode the ground under the pipe, making it break and change grade in the pipe making it back graded. This all happens over a long time and no one can for see it happening, Some lines just keep working and working and there are ones that have lasted a hundred years plus, and that's a long time for the type of that was used a hundred years ago.
Your sewer line like your roof battles the water year after year, but unlike your roof you can't see it. If you saw a tree branch in your roof you would have it fixed. You can't see tree roots in your sewer line without a sewer scope.
